A Unique Education with Priceless Benefits

At The World Outside, we offer more than just childcare—we provide a high-quality, fully outdoor early years education that nurtures confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Yes, government-funded places are available, but as with any specialist education, ensuring the highest standards of safety, staffing, and outdoor learning resources comes at a cost beyond basic funding.

Why Does Outdoor Learning Require Additional Investment?

Unlike traditional nurseries, we operate in a woodland environment that requires:

  • Higher staff-to-child ratios to ensure safe exploration.

  • Specialist training in outdoor first aid and Forest School methods.

  • Ongoing tree safety inspections and maintenance.

  • Protective clothing and equipment to keep children safe and comfortable year-round.

Government-Funded Places & Parental Contributions

We are committed to making outdoor learning accessible to all families. While we fully honour government-funded hours, the funding provided by local authorities does not cover the full cost of delivering an enriched outdoor education.

To maintain the exceptional quality and safety of our setting, we ask for voluntary contributions from parents. These contributions directly fund:

  • Safe access to woodland learning with trained staff.

  • Specialist Forest School activities, including tool use, fire lighting, and nature-based projects.

  • Animal care experiences, including interaction with our nursery guinea pigs.

  • Campfire cooking, den building, and real-world problem-solving experiences.

🏃‍♂️ Active – Daily movement in natural spaces, building strength, coordination, and a lifelong love for outdoor play.

🌱 Thriving – Outdoor learning reduces stress and enhances well-being, helping children flourish emotionally and mentally.

🎨 Unbounded – Open spaces fuel creativity and imagination, encouraging free expression and discovery.

💪 Resilient – Natural challenges teach adaptability, confidence, and real-world problem-solving skills.

🧭 Explorers – Every day is an adventure, filled with hands-on learning through inquiry, discovery, and outdoor experiences.

Investing in Your Child’s Future

A high-quality, nature-based early years education is an investment in your child's confidence, resilience, and well-being.

The Oak Package - our Woodland Supplement:

Unlocking the Full Outdoor Experience

At The World Outside, we believe that children thrive best in nature, developing confidence, resilience, and independence through hands-on outdoor learning.

While we offer a fully funded nursery experience that meets all EYFS and Ofsted requirements, our Oak Package provides an enhanced outdoor education—ensuring your child benefits from the full Forest School experience.

What’s Included in the Oak Package?

By opting for the voluntary Woodland Supplement, your child gains access to a richer, safer, and more immersive outdoor education, including:

🌿 Smaller Group Sizes – An extra staff member for every 8 children, reducing ratios to 1:4 for enhanced safety and engagement.
🌳 Woodland & Forest School Insurance – Covering specialist activities in natural environments.
🪵 Tree Safety & Maintenance – Regular arboriculture surveys to ensure a safe, well-managed woodland space.
🦺 Protective Equipment for Children & Staff – Waterproof coats, boots, gloves, goggles, and hats for safe exploration in all weather.
🔨 Forest School Tools & Training – Access to saws, drills, mallets, and specialist outdoor learning resources, with advanced staff training in tool use and outdoor first aid.
⛺ Specialist Outdoor Equipment – Tarpaulins, portable toilets, hygiene supplies, fire blankets, and emergency communication devices (walkie-talkies, extra phone).
🔥 Campfire Cooking & Outdoor Snacks – Preparing food over the fire, fostering life skills and confidence.
🚶‍♂️ Guided Woodland Walks & Nature Adventures – Scavenger hunts, tree climbing, and immersive risk-managed outdoor play.
🐾 Animal Care & Responsibility – Looking after our nursery guinea pigs, including their food, housing, and veterinary care.
✅ All the Long-Term Benefits of Outdoor Learning – Supporting physical health, emotional well-being, and cognitive development through extended time in nature.

Voluntary Contribution & Pricing

To provide this exceptional level of outdoor education, we ask for a voluntary contribution in addition to your government funded hours:

  • £25 per full day

  • £14 per half day

This supplement ensures that children receive the full benefits of an enriched outdoor learning environment, with all essential safety measures and specialist experiences included.

What If I Choose Not to Contribute?

We respect every family's decision.   If you opt out of the Oak Package, your child will still receive a safe, engaging, and fully funded EYFS-aligned experience.

Due to our Unique setting, we cannot provide more than a very basic free funded offer without additional contributions. While this basic provision meets EYFS standards, it falls below the high-quality outdoor experience we strive to provide as part of our nursery ethos.

Their experience will be limited to:

  • Basic Early Years Foundation Stage Education

  • Limited outdoor play, rather than full woodland access.

  •  Standard staff-to-child ratios, without the extra supervision provided by the Oak Package.

  •  It does not include specialist Forest School activities, tools, or risk-managed outdoor challenges.

  •   It does not include campfire cooking, nature walks, or extended exploration of the natural world.

  •  It does not include involvement in animal care, including our nursery guinea pigs.

Invest in the Best Start for Your Child

The Oak Package is more than an optional extra—it’s an investment in your child’s confidence, resilience, and love for learning. If you would like to discuss financial support options, please reach out to us directly.
