Free Early Education Offer for Parents
The World Outside – Funded Childcare Entitlement
What We Offer
We provide funded early education for eligible children in line with government guidelines, including:
-
15 hours per week (universal entitlement) for all 3- and 4-year-olds
-
30 hours per week for eligible working parents of 3- and 4-year-olds
-
15 hours per week for eligible 2-year-olds
Our funding is stretched over 51 weeks per year, meaning that:
-
15 hours per week (term-time) becomes 11 hours per week all year
-
30 hours per week (term-time) becomes 22 hours per week all year
This allows parents to access their free entitlement more evenly across the whole year, rather than just during term time.
When Funded Hours Are Available
We offer funded hours during the following sessions:
-
Morning Session: 8:00am – 12:30pm
-
Afternoon Session: 1:00pm – 5:00pm
-
All Day: 8:00am – 5:00pm
Parents can choose a combination of sessions up to their total funded hours.
What is Included in the Government Funded Offer?
Fully Funded places cover:
-
Access to our indoor classroom
-
Access to an outdoor play area at specified times during the day to meet EYFS requirements i.e. 30 minutes per a half day as we do not have the facilities/set up to provide free flow.
-
Access to the App Famly
-
Education that meet the requirements of the EYFS and Ofsted
What is NOT included in the funded entitlement:
-
Meals and snacks – Parents must provide a healthy packed lunch (and healthy snacks if opting out)
-
Access to the woodlands or forest school sessions
-
Nappies, nappy sacks, wipes, and spare clothing – Parents must provide these
-
Outdoor clothing - Parents must provide these
-
Access to a higher ratio of staff
-
Access to the animals when they are on site
Due to the nature of our setting as a fully outdoor nursery, we are not equipped to provide more than a very basic free funded offer without additional contributions.
The location of the woodland presents unique challenges that limit our ability to deliver the full outdoor experience under the standard funding allocation.
While this basic provision meets the EYFS standards, it falls below the high standards we uphold as a nursery and does not fully align with our ethos of immersive outdoor learning
Statement for Parents
Funded Childcare at The World Outside
At The World Outside, we are passionate about the benefits of outdoor learning and are proud to be the only fully outdoor early years setting in the Wyre Forest.
Our ethos is built on fostering confidence, resilience, and a deep connection with nature, giving children the unique opportunity to learn and thrive in an environment rich with real-world experiences.
As a fully outdoor setting, safety must be our highest priority.
Unlike traditional nurseries, we operate within a woodland environment, which requires significant additional safety measures to ensure the well-being of all children.
These essential measures include:
-
Extra staffing to maintain safe supervision in woodland areas – we operate at higher staff-to-child ratio than indoor settings to ensure safe exploration and learning
-
Annual tree safety inspections and maintenance to reduce risks from falling branches and natural hazards.
-
Specialist training for staff, including Forest School qualifications and outdoor first aid.
-
Specialist equipment and safety measures, Personal protective equipment for staff and children and well-maintained tools for outdoor learning, time for staff to carry our risk assessments.
Funding & Parental Contributions
We offer government-funded childcare places, stretching funded hours across 51 weeks per year to provide flexibility for families.
However, the funding rate set by the local authority does not cover the essential safety measures required to operate our woodland setting.
To maintain the safety, quality, and ethos of our provision, we ask for voluntary contributions from parents.
These contributions enable us to:
-
Keep your child safe in the woodland environment by funding essential risk management.
-
Ensure the woodland and trees remain safe for children to enter and explore.
-
Provide the staffing levels necessary for outdoor learning and supervision.
-
Offer the full Forest School experience, including woodland walks, campfire cooking, nature-based activities, and animal care.
-
Care for our nursery guinea pigs, allowing children to develop responsibility and a connection with animals.
The Fully Funded Offer: What It Includes
We are committed to ensuring that all children can access their government-funded hours, and our provision will continue to meet EYFS and Ofsted requirements.
However, due to the unique nature of our woodland setting, our ability to provide full outdoor experiences depends on additional funding for specialist staffing, safety measures, and training as detailed above.
Without these contributions, we are only able to offer a basic provision, which means your child’s experience will be:
-
A safe and engaging EYFS-aligned experience that meets all early year’s requirements.
-
Access to an outdoor play area, at set times during the day, as we do not have the facilities for free-flow outdoor play.
-
Limited outdoor learning experiences, as activities must be adjusted to fit minimum staffing levels.
-
No access to our woodland areas, as we cannot safely maintain and staff them under the basic funding rate.
-
No access to our nursery guinea pigs, as their care and interaction sessions are part of our enhanced provision.
-
No participation in specialist Forest School activities such as tool work, fire lighting, and extended exploration of nature.
-
Their nursery experience will be safe and meet all early years requirements but will be limited in scope compared to our woodland-based provision.
If your child would benefit from the full outdoor learning experience, but financial concerns are a barrier, please speak to us confidentially—we may be able to explore support options together.
Is The World Outside Right for Your Child?
Our nursery is a specialist outdoor learning setting, and outdoor access is at the heart of everything we do. If you are looking for a high-quality, nature-based early years’ experience, we strongly encourage you to consider how your contributions help make this possible.
For more details on our Funding Policy, optional extras, and how to apply, please see our Funding Policy or contact us directly.
Woodland Access & Weather Conditions
At The World Outside, we are committed to providing daily outdoor learning experiences in our woodland setting. However, access to the woodland is dependent on weather conditions, and on rare occasions, we may be unable to access it due to safety risks posed by high winds or extreme weather.
Why Does This Happen?
-
High winds can cause branches to fall, making areas unsafe for children and staff.
-
Storms and extreme weather can lead to tree damage that requires professional maintenance and arborist assessments.
-
These are the days when the most damage occurs, and our priority is to ensure the woodland remains safe for future learning experiences.
-
Thunder storms will require us to leave the woodlands for up to and usually no more than a few hours whilst the storm passes through.
Important Note:
-
Woodland closures due to safety concerns i.e. high winds occur only a few days per year on average, on these occasions we use our open spaces to ensure that the children are able to get outside
-
There will be no refunds or reductions in fees for days when the woodland are inaccessible, as contributions help fund essential tree maintenance, risk assessments, and specialist services to keep the woodland safe for future use.
-
Alternative outdoor learning activities will be provided in our other designated outdoor spaces when the woodland is not accessible.
We appreciate your understanding and support in ensuring the long-term safety and sustainability of our outdoor learning environment.
This fee calculator provides a close estimate to the fees you will pay at The World Outside. There are no hidden extras.

Our fees as an outdoor setting
At The World Outside, safety is our highest priority. As an outdoor-based setting, we maintain a higher staff-to-child ratio of 1:5 rather than the standard 1:8, ensuring that children are fully supervised and supported while exploring the woodland environment.
Our session fees are set to reflect the true cost of delivering high-quality outdoor education.
These fees are called the woodland supplement and cover:
-
Highly trained staff to maintain our enhanced supervision levels.
-
A higher staff-to-child ratio than the government’s minimum requirements, exceeding the standards used in traditional nursery settings.
-
Specialist outdoor equipment to support safe and engaging learning.
-
Regular woodland maintenance and tree safety inspections to ensure a secure environment.
-
Additional activities, such as outdoor cooking, Forest School sessions, and nature-based experiences.
-
Specialist training for staff, including Forest School qualifications and 16-hour Outdoor First Aid certification.
Families who are eligible for government-funded childcare hours may apply their entitlement to reduce this cost
All fees are transparent and clearly outlined, please use the fee calculator to estimate your fees. For an accurate quote please contact the nursery
Working with the Local Authority
We are working closely with the Local Authority to ensure that our fee structure aligns with the latest funding guidance. Our updated funding policy has been submitted for review, and we expect confirmation by March 2025. We remain committed to full compliance with funding regulations and will update our information as soon as we receive further guidance.
Transparent Pricing & Comparing Costs
We believe in complete transparency when it comes to our fees. Unlike some nursery settings, we ensure that all charges are clearly stated upfront. When comparing our fees with other providers, we encourage parents to check whether additional fees are applied to funded places and please ensure that they are included in any quotes when comparing our fees with other settings
If you have any questions about how funding works or would like further details on our fees, we are happy to help. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
Meals, Lite Bites and Consumables
The children are required to bring their own packed lunches and snacks .
On most days we hope that the children will get the opportunity to cook light snacks on the fire if you have the Oaks Package
there will be no extra charge as this is covered by the woodland supplement.
Parents are required to provide their child's own personal care items,
such as nappies, wipes, sun lotion, creams, clothing and outdoor clothing/ waterproofs etc.
Additional Charges
Additional charges may apply for activities that require an outside provider.
These will be agreed in advance and will not be compulsory.

-
Provide us with your funding details to secure your child’s place
If you have any questions or need help applying, please contact us
We look forward to welcoming your child!
We understand you may have questions about why we charge additional fees alongside government-funded hours.
Government funding only covers basic childcare costs, and the government's focus on providing low-cost childcare undermines parents' wishes for high-quality care in a safe, nurturing environment. Providing cheap childcare is not an option for us, as safety and well-being are paramount—especially in our unique outdoor setting, where children learn through nature.
Our higher staff-to-child ratio ensures personalised support, supervision, and a nurturing environment.
Staffing costs continue to rise, with the National Living Wage increasing to £12.21 per hour in April 2025. We pay above standard nursery wages to reflect the exceptional work of our staff in our outdoor setting.
Additionally, the national minimum wage and National Insurance contributions have increased by 9.8%, significantly raising our overall staffing costs. Meanwhile, government funding has only increased by 5.5%, meaning it does not fully cover these rising expenses.
These additional voluntary fees allow us to maintain high-quality staffing, provide enriching activities, and offer a well-equipped, stimulating outdoor setting. This ensures your child benefits from engaging, nature-based learning that goes beyond the minimum standards.
By investing in these areas, we continue to provide the exceptional care, education, and outdoor experiences that every child deserves.
